The Uganda Handball Super League kicked off last Saturday at the Uganda Christian University, Mukono grounds with a series of games.
Women defending champions, Police Lady Metro went down 20 – 26 to Nkumba University on the opening day.
Nkumba’s Olivia Nambatya led the Tornado’s attack, scoring quick 6 goals before Metro scored their first goal and the first half ending 15 – 8 in favor of the University side.
The second half started rather on a high with both teams scoring and the introduction of Maimunah Namuwaya in the second half opened up so many chances for the University side and becoming so hard on Police and the Tornadoes became so hard on defence with the game ending 26 – 20 in favor of Nkumba University.
Olivia Nambatya and Beatrice Nakamya top scored for Nkumba University with 5 goals each while Namuwaya Beatrice and Akongo Stella each scored 5 for Police.
The game of the day saw Ever Green taking on last year’s runners up UPDF in a mouth watering encounter. UPDF unleashed a rather unusual line up and they had almost gotten written off even before the start of the game having most of their starters on the bench.
Ever Green’s Patrick Semuwemba and Job Oloya played gallantly (scoring 4 and 10 goals respectively) but could not withhold the intense pressure from the soldiers.
The other game of the day saw Ndejje University Scorpions sting Kifaru 34 – 15. This was rather a one sided game as the Scorpions, who looked bigger than their opponents in size started running over them with the first half ending 15 – 8.
The game ended 34 – 15 with Felix Mukunzi and Rogers Nkaguete top scoring for Ndejje with 10 and 7 goals respectively.Arnold Kahuma and Gerald Sebuguzi only managed 4 and 3 goals respectively for Kifaru.
The last game of the day had Polcei Metro punishing new debutants Kakungulu Memorial 29 – 15. This was another one sided affair as Metro took the boys back to school scoring for fun and through last year’s top scorer Frank Wyne Semujju with 12 goals and Kangala Imran adding 4. The school boys only managed to score 15 goals with Sserunjogi Brian and Tunamasiko Collins top scoring with 4 goals each.
The game ended 29 – 15 in favor of Police Metro.
The Wednesday games against Ndejje University Scorpions and UPDF at Ndejje University have been postponed to a date that will be communicated at the soonest.
The league resumes next weekend 3rd May, 2014 at UCU, Mukono grounds.
