Nkumba Navy will on Wednesday launch the chase for a second NSSF Volleyball League title against reigning champions Nemostars in Lugogo. According to a local newspaper Daily Monitor, the 2011 winner will look at setter/coach Tony Lakony to provide experience in the setting department.
The local daily continued to stress how Lakony has been away for two weeks with Nkumba ladies at the Africa Women Club Championship were they finished 15th out of 16 teams. “I haven’t seen in two weeks but have been getting good reports about their response in training,” Lakony told the newspaper.
“A league is league you have to hit the road running, can’t wait for later to start gathering points,” he added. Nemostars come into the Wednesday fixture with a target of winning a third straight game, while Nkumba want to start on a high in their first league encounter.
Though the two-time league winners are hindered by the absence of Louis Mubangizi, Christopher Ajena and Anthony Oleuko from training but captain George Aporu retains faith in his team. “Yes we are missing players, but you forget that we now have a slightly bigger team from compared to last year.”
“Am and the available players have been responding well in training, so am sure whoever coach picks to play a role will give their best,” said Aporu. The two have a history; Nemostars defeated Nkumba in 2012, to win their first league title but also denied the latter a chance to defend the crown they had won in 2011.
