Ex-Ggaba United and Vipers SC goalie Hamza Muwonge, now playing with Kenyan Premier League side Thika United, has been put on the Uganda Cranes stand-by list for the AFCON 2015 qualification campaign.

The development follows the likely unavailability of goalies Denis Onyango (Wits University) and Robert Odongkara (St George, Ethiopia).

Onyango has a busy schedule with his South African team while Robert Odongkara injured his knee on Tuesday against Insurance football club in the Ethiopian national league.

“Surely when you play well, you deserve to be rewarded and recognized with a national team call” Micho added.

Hamza’s form with Thika has been tremendous and lets wait to see how Odongkara recovers and Onyango’s club schedule”, Micho said.

Muwonge joined Thika United early in January on a one year contract and has been in scintillating form.

In one of the earlier interviews with Kawowo Sports, Muwonge attested to the quick adjustment he had to a the club as a stepping stone to the national team.

“Life is superb at Thika. I am enjoying my stay here and want to use the Kenyan league exposure to be called back to the national team as that was my ambition as to why I grabbed this chance,” Muwonge added.

Muwonge recently saved a penalty from Ugandan compatriot Daniel Sserunkuma during his team’s goal-less draw with Gor Mahia F.C.

Cranes enter residential training on Wednesday at Sky Hotel, Ntinda.
