The weekend was complete for the school boys of Kakungulu Memorial when they surprisingly got their first win of the season after beating Ever green handball club 25 – 23 at Uganda Christian University grounds Mukono.
The Kakunkugulu who are playing their debut season in the top tier came all fired up and steadily gained confidence after Ever Green putting up a weakened team with most of their top players being absent for the match due to other commitments.
“It feels good to win in the National league for the elite teams and most of all, against a big team like Ever Green. It’s something we least expected because even after the last whistle, I had to go to the table and first confirm that actually we had won”. Kakungulu’s Captain Magala Pius said shortly after the game.
The result puts Ever Green at the bottom of the table having lost all their first three games of the season.
In other games, UPDF handball club speared Arrows handball club in a tightly contested encounter of the day to maintain their 100% winning rate of the season. Both teams started tearing each others’ defense scoring goal to goal but eventually the army side emerged winners with a-43 – 25 score; a result that kept them on top of the log with 6 points from 3 played games.
The other games saw walkovers for Nkumba University Tornadoes and Prison Spears as their respective opponents didn’t show up. Kifaru also got a walk over against debutant Divine Mercy who came late for the game and hence, the former registered its first win of the season.
