Uganda’s seed two David Oringa, fell to unseeded Russian IIya Vasilyev, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 in the first round on Tuesday at the Egypt F8 Futures tennis tournament in Soho Club at Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
“It was not an easy game for me the weather here is extremely hot and the conditions were not good for me,” Oringa stated. “I believe I will play better in my next tournament.”
Oringa is using the tournament for a tune-up ahead of the Uganda Open and Kenya Open slated for next month as he also seeks to elevate his points on the International Tennis Federation rankings.
The Uganda Christian University student is ranked 1715 on the International Tennis Federation ranking. Last year he lost in the Uganda Open semi-finals losing to finalist Dieu Donne Habiyambere of Rwanda, he will be seeking better fortunes to reclaim the Uganda Open that he last won in 2012.
