Mauritius has pulled out of the Federation of International Beach Volleyball U-19 World Championship qualifiers that start this Friday at Lido beach Entebbe. Mauritius’s withdraw leaves Hosts Uganda, neighbors Kenya and Rwanda Egypt and Namibia as the only participants’ in the three day double gender competition.
“Mauritius was just a tentative confirmation by the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) but their president informed Sadik Nasiwu (Uganda’s volleyball head) while in Cairo that they won’t be taking part,” said local organizing committee head Godwin Sseynondo. “But Egypt, Namibia, Kenya and Rwanda have all confirmed participation,” he added.
Uganda will be represented by Kathbert Malinga and Elias Isiagi in the boys category while novices Faith Magole and Jackline Kwikiriza in the girls. Egypt and Namibia will be sending only boys’ teams meaning Magole and Kwikiriza will only have competition from Kenya and Rwanda.
Egyptian U-19 Beach Volleyball Coach arrived on Wednesday morning and later the playing pair and a referee also touched based in Entebbe in the afternoon. The rest of the team is expected in the country on Thursday around Lunch time.
Three teams from each gender will qualify for the world Championship finals to be hosted by Portugal in Porto from July 29-August 3. The Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) has also appointed its Beach Volleyball director May Alaa to oversee the championship together with Drago Peslac as referee delegate.
