Tennis legend Margaret Court is eyeing to set up a tennis academy for children in Uganda after her successful tour to the country recently were she held tennis clinics with children courtesy of Miracle Centre Ministeries.

Mrs Court, 71, and her husband Barry recently completed a visit to Uganda recently as guests of the Miracle Centre Ministeries that is under Pastor Robert Kayanja.

They took part in a number of religious events but during her stay she and Perth tennis coach Matt Carle also held several tennis clinics, including one for more than 200 children on the outskirts of the capital Kampala.

Court, who won a record 24 grand slam singles titles, brought child-size tennis racquets and balls to Africa and was impressed by the talent and athleticism of the local children.

“You have very good athletes. It is very easy to make a good athlete a champion,” she said.

Mrs Court told local reporters she came from a family that had nothing, but with belief and determination, she made it to the top.

Fellow instructor John Kasule described the course as a blessing where the coaches were like biblical ‘fishers of men’.
