Sports Club Victoria University (Uganda) 0 – 0 Al Merriek (Sudan)

Sudanese football giants, Al Merriek and Uganda’s Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) played to a non scoring draw in their second match of the inaugural Nile Basin Cup at the Al-Merreikh stadium on Sunday night.

The hosting club, Al Merriekh fielded a strong side but SCVU held their nerves despite missing 4 players on the team.

Defenders, Savio Kabugo and Denis Iguma, Striker Dan Nsubuga Ssekabembe were left in Kampala for national team duties and ailment reasons respectively.

Striker, Noah Ssemakula too missed the game after getting injured in the team’s 1 – 0 slim opening win to South Sudan’s Malakia on Friday.

Defender, Murushid Jjuuko scored in the 12th minute of the game to earn script his first ever goal for SCVU.

The Ugandan side now lies second in group B with a date against Zanzibar’s Polisi on Tuesday evening.

Al Merriekh will play Malakia on the same day at the same time. The top two sides per group qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament, whose winners will pocket USD 60,000.

Runners up will get USD 20,000 while the third placed one will get USD 10,000.
