The opening ceremony of the 8th edition of the Masaza Cup will be staged in Mubende district when Buweekuula take on Ssingo on Sunday 14th June 2014.

The two-month long tourney will be graced by the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.

“We are ready to start this years’ Masaza cup and our team is in good shape to face Ssingo” Nantayi Immaculate Kafeero, leader of Buweekuula County, told Kawowo sports.

Buweekuula and Ssingo have never won the Masaza cup since its re-inauguration in 2006. Mawokota are the defending champions after beating Ssingo in the finals at Nakivubo.

To the football enthusiasts, Masaza cup is a ground that provides thrilling action where fresh untapped talent is unearthed. Many players have gained much needed exposure that not only has learning institutions utilized to award them bursaries, but also super league clubs have a basis to buy them.

Eighteen counties are placed in 4 groups. They have to play each other on a home and away basis before the best two placed teams from the each group make it to the quarterfinal stage, then semis before a grand finale at Nakivubo National Stadium.

The 18 counties are: Busiro, Buvuma, Buluri, Ssingo, Mawokota, Gomba, Bulemeezi, Buddu, Kooki, Kyaggwe, Ssesse, Bugerere, Buweekula, Mawogola, Busujju, Butambala, Kabula and Kyadondo.
