Nine Ugandan tennis players are set to take part in the Real Insurance Kenya Open tennis championship that is due at the Nairobi Club in from June 15-22.
The group of players is led by last year’s winner Duncan Mugabe together with Uganda’s second seed David Oringa, others set to take part include Moses Otiti, Simon Ayella, Richard Semanda, Daniel Ruyange(Mugabe’s older brother), Boris Aguma, Charles Okurut, Robert Manyali and Paul Sekandi.
It will be the biggest entry that Uganda will be sending to the prize-money tournament however the group of players are looking for funds to enable them take part in the prestigious tournament.
Mugabe will be vying for back to back titles at this tournament as last year he won men’s singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles a feat that no other Ugandan tennis player has achieved however he will have to watch out as Zambia’s Edgar Kazembe is expected to take part together with Rwanda’s Jean Claude Gasigwa together Dieudonne Habiyambere, Olivier Nkunda and Mathew Uwizeyimana.
The total prize money for the tournament is Kenya shillings 1.2 million with the winner walking away with 90,000 Kenya shillings while the Ladies singles winner gets 80,000 Kenya shillings.
