Buganda Premier (Katikiro) Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga has launched the 2014 Buganda Masaza football cup at Mengo in Kampala on Friday.

“We appeal to the all the people regardless of any tribal affiliation to fully support this tournament in the best way possible”, Mayiga urged in his brief speech.

Buwekula is set to host last year’s losing finalists, Singo in the opener set for the 14th June 201 at St Peters’ technical grounds.

At the launch Mayiga, who also ushered in a new working committee of the tournament also appealed for team work from all parties as a way of attracting players, fans and the sponsors of the game.

“Division-ism has always let us down in organization of sports in Uganda. That is why fans have always preferred foreign matches to local games within the country. But when we work as a team, the stadia will be occupied to capacity”, he added.

Hajji Ali Mugaga is the chairman of the local organizing committee on a strong team that has has Sam Mpiima (referees), Omar Mandela (finance), Faridah Bongoole (media), David Lumansi (media), Festus Kirumira (Technical), Mariam Kaliga, William Nkemba, Moses Batemyetu, Sulait Ssenjengo among others.

This year marks the 10th edition of the tourney which is played by all the 18 counties of Buganda.

Mawokota Ssaza, the tourney’s defending champion are the record winners of this tournament have won it three times; in 2005, 2007 and last year, 2013.
