Uganda Cup Final Result:

FT: KCC FC 2-2 URA FC [URA FC win 4-2 on penalties]

URA FC are champions of the 2014 Uganda Cup after beating KCC FC 4-2 on penalties in a closely contested game at Mbale Municipal stadium after a 2-2 draw in the 90 minutes.

Goalie Brian Bwete was the hero for Paul Nkata’s charges after saving two penalties before netting the winner in a dramatic shootout.

KCC FC dominated proceedings in the opening half hour of the game and got their reward as William Wadri put them in the lead in the 29th minute after a good ball by Brian Majwega. The lead however lasted just four minutes as skipper Simeon Masaba equalized for the tax collectors.

The experienced right full back curled a beautiful free kick past goalie Nicholas Sebwato following a foul on the edge of the area on Robert Ssentongo by defender Ronald Kisekka.

Three minutes later, Feni Moses Ali put URA FC in the lead for the first time with a brilliant header off Erukana Nkugwa’s cross.

From this moment, it was Paul Nkata’s charges in ascendency but the Lugogo based side held on though it ended 2-1 in favour of URA FC at half time.

Immediately after recess, Nsimbe brought on teenage striker Derrick Nsibambi in the place of Habib Kavuma in a bid to resort to an attacking game but Nkata responded by making a double substitution bringing on Augustine Nsumba and Sam Sekitto for Martin Opolot and injured Allan Munaaba respectively.

At this time, KCC FC relentlessly pushed for an equalizer with Herman Wasswa, William Wadri and Derrick Nsibambi getting close but denied by the steady Brian Bwete.

However, their dominance repaid with 12 minutes left on the clock as Nsibambi found the equalizer via a well taken header thanks to a neat cross by Herman Wasswa.

In the closing stages of the game, there were shouts for a penalty from the KCC FC bench as Jonathan Mugabi fouled Wasswa in the forbidden area but referee Brian Nsubuga waved play on.

It was 2-2 at full time and the champion had to be decided on penalties as there was no extra time to play.

It was at this moment that Bwete’s heroics came to show as he saved Gaddafi Kiwanuka and Ronald Kisekka’s balls from 12 yards though he could do little as Herman Wasswa and Tom Masiko netted.

After saving the two, it was Bwete again who scored the winner after Simeon Masaba, Feni Ali Moses, Sam Sekitto and Said Kyeyune had done their job.

The final whistle meant that the historical double remains elusive for KCC FC as the Tax Collectors won their third title in five finals.

On top of the trophy, URA FC will recieve a cash prize of Ugx 7 million whilst KCC FC walked away with Ugx 2 million.

KCC FC’s Herman Wasswa and URA FC’s Feni Moses Ali finished as joint topscorers with seven goals but the former walk away with a cash prize of Ugx 0.2 million since the rules of the competition award the one who scored the goals first according FUFA Media Officer Ahmed Hussein Marsha.
