Western Region Finals:
Boys : Ryakasinga CHE (Sheema) 1 (4) – 1 (2) Kigezi High School(Kabale)
Girls: Citizen B (Isingiro) 1 – 0 Citizen A (Isingiro)
The western region Airtel rising stars U-17 football competition have ended successfully on Sunday at the Kabale Municipal Stadium with Sheema’s Nyakasinga CHE and Isingiro’s Citizen B winning the boys and girls events respectively.
By the close of business, a select team of 64 boys and girls players that will represent the region at the national finals in Fort portal later this month was picked by national coach, Majidah Nantanda (girls) and coaches, Frank Video Anyau and Phillip Obwinyi (boys’scouts).
Sheema district’s Ryakasinga have won the boys category after shocking the host team, Kigezi High school 4 -2 in penalties that followed a 1 all draw.
Isingiro district’s Citizen high school has had a clean sweep of the girls’ event as both their two teams reached the finals.
Citizen B beat Citizen A 1 – 0 courtesy of a Zulupha Bahati strike.
Airtel Uganda representative, Bendict Sekadde appreciated the players, FUFA, scouts, partners Rwenzori mineral water and Kabale District association for necessitating a worthwhile tournament.
Chief guest, Elly Matte, Kabale District regional Police Commander has hailed all the partners and stakeholders in the U-17 Airtel Rising Stars cause.
This has been the last of the regional finals to be played with the national finals coming up at Fort Portal later this month.
A select side of team Uganda will have a training opportunity in Gabon later this year.
