1998 World champions France start their 2014 campaign against Central Americans Honduras in game set to be played at Estadio Beira-Rio, Porto Alegre. The Les Blues will be looking to turn the opening day jinx after failing to score in three consecutive openers since 1998. The French lost 1-0 to Senegal in 2002 and subsequently drew goal less in 2006 and 2010.
Arsenal forward Olivier Giroudi is expected to lead the attack through the centre with Karim Benzema and Mathieu Valbuena completing the attacking trio on both flanks. Paul Pogba and Cabaye are expected to take proceedings in central midfield while Didier Deschamps will have to choose two from Mamadou Sakho, Laurent Koscielny and Raphael Varane for a centre back pairing.
On the other hand, Honduras come into the game searching for their first ever goal in five World Cup games having failed to score in the previous four. Nevertheless, Luis Fernando Suarez’s side have valuable experience with ten members from the 2010 edition.
