Uganda most celebrated woodball icon, Lillian Zawedde is delighted about her performance after she scooped Silver at the recently concluded Korea Interantional Woodball Open.
“I am more than happy but i will not rest because there is a forthcoming Woodball world cup in China come September”, she told the media at a special media briefing held at the Uganda Woodball Federation (UWbF) premises in Mengo.
Zawedde returned scores of 262 over the 3 days, same as Taiwan’s Wu Chin Han, but she lost on countback.
Zawedde carded 50, 52, 58, 54, 48 to total 262 while the Taiwan lady, Chin returned 37, 55, 53, 59, 58.
“I led from day one but choked on the final day due to intense pressure. But it all happens, next time, i am aware how to handle the leaderboard pressure”, she confessed to Kawowo Sports in a special interview.
56 female players took part in the ladies’ singles event.
She however missed the doubles and mixed doubles catergories because they left Uganda as one person.
Chin Lin Hui combined with Lin Yi Wen to take the mixed doubles event while Kim Myoung Ki took the men’s Single’s event after scoring 236 strokes.
“We are happy for Lillian (Zawedde). She has been a true ambassador of Woodball in Uganda”, an excited John Baptist Kateregga, the administrator with Uganda Woodball Federation said.
Zawedde, who also travelled to Malaysia at the start of the year and scooped bronze, sings praises of all people who helped her make the trip.
“I take this opportunity to thank Mr Kayongo (President, UWbF), Ndejje University and all my friends who have stood by me over the years to see that my carreer blossoms”, she signed out with her trademark broad winners’ smile.
