After a successful completion of the Nile Special Open pool championships in Kampala central region, focus now drives to the Western region.
On Friday, all attention will be on Edward Byaruhanga last year’s regional winner at Agaba Tervan. He has qualified twice for the Nile Special Pool grand finale.
However, Byaruhanga will face stiff competition in new challengers such as Joram Nabasa, who, last year, qualified for the grand finale from Ntungamo. Patrick Twesigomwe is another to closely watch.
On Saturday, Panorama-Ibanda will be the major attention. Specifically, regional giant Moses Arinaitwe will be the main attraction. The 2011 Nile Special pool beaten finalist at Lugogo Indoor stadium, will be seeking to make a come-back.
He missed out last year’s grand finale when he was eliminated on the second round of the regional qualifier by Hakim Nabosi at Panorama.
Perhaps, Arinaitwe will be a little happier seeing that his nemesis Nabosi fell during the preliminary qualification round at Paradise Bar in Ibanda and misses out on the regional qualification.
This leaves Onesmus Ashaba as the major threat to Arinaitwe’s quest for the regional crown.
At Desert Island in Mbarara, Ntinda Pool Club’s Grace Akoyo and one of the top scorers in the pool lower league, is the player to beat.
But he will have to contend with a lot of competition foremost of them all being the 2012 regional champion Andrew Aseka, who skipped last year’s tournament due to other commitments. Lawrence Nuwamanya is also another player to watch.
