9th EAUG: 17th – 21st December 2014 At UCU, Main Campus Mukono
Church of Uganda Archbishop, His Grace, The Most Rev. Stanley Ntagali has today graced the launch of the 9th East African University games at the UCU main campus in Mukono.
“I thank the Eastern Africa University Sports Federation for awarding these games to UCU. This is a indeed a sign of confidence bestowed upon us”, Ntagali remarked in his brief speech.
UCU main Campus will host the week long games that kick off 17th December 2014.
Record Attendance:
The increment in the number of participating nations from 6 to 12 will most likely paste a drastic increase in the participants.
Close to 3000 participants from 12 countries are expected to take part in 17 sporting disciplines.
Universities from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Sudan, Eritrea, Somalia, Ethiopia, Comoros and Seychelles will all take part.
Sporting Disciplines:
17 games will be on the menu and these range from indoor games like Chess, Darts, Table Tennis, Badminton and Scrabble to outfield sports in the face of Athletics, Basketball, Handball, Hockey, Karate, Rugby, Soccer, Swimming, Tennis, Volleyball and Woodball.
Ug.shs 1.3 Billion Budget:
The President Local organizing committee, Anny Katabaazi appealed to the government, the corporate world, the media and the entire major partners to help in the great organization and publizing of the games.
“Our budget stretched to the tune of Ug.shs 1.3 Billion. We therefore appeal to all stake holders to help us raise that sum for the games’ eventual success”, he added.
Ndejje University is the overall defending Champion having won the last championships held in Dar es salaam in 2012.
