The fruits sown just 3 months back with the first stroke of a mallet will soon yield instant dividends.
Woodball started as a leisure sport among the staff members at St Joseph technical institute, Kisubi earlier this year, but has migrated to other institutes and will next month be played on the menu of the Vocational games in Kabarole.
For the first time in the history of Woodball in Uganda, the sport will be among the many that will be competed for at the Regional Farm and Technical Institutes Games 2014.
St. Joseph’s Technical Institute Kisubi is set to host Nakawa Technical Institute, Lugogo Vocational Institute and Mubende Technical Institute for Central Region qualifiers running from July 16 – 18, 2014.
“As hosts, we held our internal Woodball competitions last week to select our best to face Nakawa, who are our prime opponents.” Mr. Bukenya, the Woodball patron at Kisubi Technical.
He added that Woodball would be held on the first day (July 16) alongside athletics.
In the Western region, Kabale Technical will host 16 other Technical and Farm institutes with each vying for the Woodball title and advancing to the next level of competition.
Rugando Technical Institute and Rwentanga Technical Institute are the favorites to advance from Western Uganda.
National Games:
The best two teams from each region will compete at the National Technical & Vocational Institutes and PTC Games slated for August 3 – 13, 2014 at Canon Apollo Core PTC, Kabarole.
