Rubaga Regional finalists:
Pacify Motel, Wakaliga – Wasswa Kayiiya, Joseph Serwanja and Meddie kalande
Orange County Pub – Gideon Tumwizunye, Isa Mutyaba and Farouq Sentamu
Nateete Shopping Center– Poulas Bisaso, Dirisa Katende and Musa Ssekiriba
Labamba Pub, Namungoona – Mustafa Bwiire, Andrew Lukwago and Patrick Mubiru
Veteran Pool players, Wasswa Kayiiya and Poulas Bisaso ensured they make it to the grand finals of the 2014 National open pool championships over the weekend.
The duo, who qualified from Rubaga now join the over 70 players that have qualified from Entebbe, Masaka, Kampala central, Northern, Western and Makindye of the playing centers so far covered.
Kayiiya, one of the most experienced pool players in the country qualified from Pacify Pub in Wakaliga after beating Joseph Sserwanje in the finals.
Bisaso on the other hand overcame Dirisa Katende 4 – 1 in the finals held at Natete Shopping center.
“The ball is now in my court to train hard and make an impression at the nationals”, Kayiiya, the 2008 semifinalist revealed.
The finals at Pacify Pub regional center was one of the several held in the Rubaga division playing region.
Other Rubaga Centers:
There was action at 3 (three) pool playing centers within Rubaga pool playing division.
At Orange County bar in Nalukolongo:
Gideon Tumwizunye was ruthless as he beat 31 other players overcoming Isa Mutyaba 4 -1 in one sided final.
Farouq Sentamu made it alongside the two finalists to join the Lugogo cream.
At Natete Shopping Center:
Skin Samona captain, Poulas Bisaso beat Dirisa Katende in one sided final that ended 4 -1.
Another Skin Samona player, Musa Ssekiliba marked his maiden appearance as he secured third place.
Labamba Pub in Namugoona:
Mustafa Bwiire, Andrew Lukwago and Patrick Mubiru secured the slots in winners and the respective runners up positions.
Grand Finals:
This year’s national finals will take place at the Lugogo Indoor stadium on the 6th September 2014 with 128 players expected to take part.
120 of these qualify directly from the regional centers across the entire country where close to 3000 bars have been involved.
The overall grand winner will drive home a brand new Toyota Brevis vehicle, pocket Ug.shs 2M and take a pool table.
The other top 16 players stand to earn varying cash prizes of different proportions.
The reigning national champion is Jonah ‘Joker’ Turigye, a 3 time pool champion.
Next Pool playing centers:
This coming weekend, action cues off at the Midwest region with two regional playing centers in Masindi and Fort Portal.
At Masindi, action will take place at the Sport On pub while in Fort Portal , the thick of it all will take place at the ever busy Forest Bar.
