Harambee Stars Coach Adel Amrouche has been banned by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for one year.

This follows an incident in which the ex-Burundi tactician spit at a match official as Kenya battled Comoros in the previous round of the 2015 Afcon qualifiers.

He had earlier been slapped with a two match suspension pending the submission of the matter to the CAF disciplinary board the reason he wasn’t on the touchline as Kenya lost 1-0 to Lesotho on Sunday in Maseru.

The board chaired by South Africa’s Raymond Hack had its sitting last Thursday at CAF headquarters in Cairo where the decision was finally made to ban the Kenyan coach.

In its ruling the board found Amrouche guilty of breaching article 129 (c) of its rules which provides for a 12 match ban to anyone spitting at a match official.

“The suspension is effective from the first day of the notification namely July 20, 2014,” CAF said in a letter copied to Football Kenya Federation (FKF) said.

It’s not known whether the FKF will appeal the decision but CAF made it clear to them that they can only appeal within three days of the start of the ban.

“The decision can be contested before CAF appeal board. The party intending to appeal shall announce this intention in writing within three days of notification of the decision,” the letter from CAF confirms.

The Kenyan FA had earlier appealed against the two match suspension slapped on Amrouche but CAF upheld the suspension.

Meanwhile, CAF says the decision will be forwarded to world governing body FIFA which may extend the sanction internationally meaning that Amrouche cannot coach any team anywhere in the world during the period of suspension.
