Uganda Cranes defender Henry Kalungi became part of the distinct few Ugandans to have played against an English Premier League side after featuring for 37 minutes as Richmond Kickers lost 3-0 to Crystal Palace in an international club friendly.
Kalungi who skippered the USL Pro side at City stadium was stretchered off for Shane Johnson eight minutes to end the first half with a game at 0-1 thanks to Peter Ramage’s 35th minute header after suffering an injury.
Glenn Murray doubled Palace’s leader in the 52nd minute with another superbly taken header before an own goal from William Yomby sealed victory for Tony Pulis’ men.
Kalungi now joins Ibrahim Ssekagya, David Obua, Savio Nsereko and Martin Mutumba Kayongo on the list of Ugandans to have ever played against a premiership side.
Ssekagya face Manchester City (UEFA Europa League) and Arsenal while still at Austria’s Red Bull Salzburg and once again face Arsenal with MLS side New York Red Bulls, David Obua played against Manchester United for South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs, Mutumba also did play against Manchester United while still at Sweden club AIK Stockholm whilst Nsereko rubbed shoulders with premiership clubs while playing for Westham United.
