Richmond Kickers Ugandan defender Henry Kalungi will have to wait till next season if he is to resume playing competitive football again after tearing anterior cruciate ligament.

The USL Pro side skipper suffered the injury following a collision during the club’s international friendly against Crystal Palace on Monday, July 28 and was withdrawn in the 37th minute.

“All involved with the club are extremely disappointed for Henry to sustain this injury,” commented Leigh Cowlishaw, Richmond Kickers Director of Soccer.  “We know he will dedicate himself to rehab and are confident that he will return in time for next season.  We wish Henry a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him on the field again soon,” read a statement on the club’s website.

Kalungi’s career with Richmond Kickers:

–         Has started 128 of 135 games for Kickers over the past six seasons

–         Named Richmond Kickers team captain in 2012

–         He helped the club win the 2009 USL PRO Championship.

–          He also guided the club to the 2010 USL PRO Finals, 2011 U.S. Open Cup Semifinals and 2013 USL PRO Regular Season Championship title
