M-Day 6: 19th Nov: Guinea vs Uganda

With visibly fatigued bodies, 14 of Uganda Cranes players returned home today minus the head coach, Micho from the victorious away trip to Mauritania on Tuesday afternoon.

Federation of Uganda Football Football Associations (FUFA) President, Moses Magago, who was also the leader of delegation epitomised the successful trip as a progressive assessment.

“Surely we are at zero level. We started at minus two (with 2 pre match group games against Seychelles and Mauritania). Now we have reached zero level”, ,Magogo who later hosted the team at a special lunch at Entebbe flight motel said.

Uganda Cranes on Sunday ejected Mauritania out of the AFCON 2015 qualifiers following Striker, Robert Sentongo’s goal in the dying second of added time to qualify for the final bend of the group stages where they will encounter Ghana, Togo and Guinea in group E.

The team returned on Tuesday minus the head coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sedrojevic, who is on a short vacation back home and 4 of the players who were in Mauritania.

Tusker’s Khalid Aucho and Gor Mahia’s Daniel Sserunkuma remained in Kenya while midfielder, Tonny Mawejje connected straight to Iceland via Paris and so did Portuguese based Luwagga Kizito.

Team skipper, Andrew Mwesigwa applauded his team mates’ splendid effort to keep a clean sheet and progress and thus called for such effort throughout the group stage games.

“We played as a unit. Coach’s instructions were well adhered to throughout the 90 minutes. Kudos the boys”, Mwesigwa said.

FUFA President has praise the country’s number one citizen, President Museveni for the financial generosity towards faciliatating the Cranes and Cubs teams’ travel expenses.

Uganda starts the group phase campaign away to Ghana the weekend of 5th – 6th September 2014 before another away match 4 days later in Guinea.
