Uganda has risen six places as per the August FIFA rankings. The country, 87 last month is currently ranked 81st in the world and 20th in Africa.
The dramatic rise is attributed to Uganda’s double wins over Mauritania in the Africa Nations Cup qualifiers which saw the Cranes reach group E.
Ghana; Uganda’s next opponent in the qualifiers have risen two places 38 to 36 in the world and are fourth in Africa.
Guinea and Togo who are also in group E together with Ghana are ranked 64th (13) and 87th (23) respectively. The former have fallen a whopping 13 places from last month whilst the latter has improved by one place.
The top five nations in the world remain World Champions Germany, Argentina, Netherlands, Colombia and Belgium.
The next release for the FIFA rankings will be September 18.
