Uganda national U-17 left winger, Pius Obuya dreams of playing professional football in an elite world league.

“I wish to play like my long time role model, Andreas Iniesta (Spanish midfielder) and succeed in a top football club either in Europe or South America”, the lanky winger says.

Obuya made 16 years on 17th July and has been part of the successful Uganda Cubs team that is yet to face Zambia in the last qualification round for the Africa U-17 Youth Championships slated for next year in Niger.

The Risa Standard College, Nansana student is in form four but has already proved he is a hot next property on the left wing department with odd assists and two goals in the campaign.

Blessed with an awesome first touch and ball protection technique,  Obuya scored home and away against Rwanda in the second round of qualifiers.

Among Obuya’s strong points is the ability to take on defenders with his swift dribbles and decent crosses down the flanks.

Nick named ‘TZ’, Obuya has the energy to draw back and help in defensive duties.

Already a glittering football future looks eminent for Obuya, he harbors a vision of becoming a professional lawyer upon completion of his education.

“I thank Mr Habibu Risasi (director at Risah College) for giving me a free education busary. I want to complete my education and become a successful lawyer”, he adds.

His coach at U-17, Mathias Lule believes, once well handled and directed, Obuya will have a successful football career.

“Obuya is not only gifted once with the ball, but also has a discipline so I believe he has a great future in the game”, Lule says of the tricky left winger.
