Kampala Central’s Kenneth Kimera was the hero as Kampala Central successfully defended the national U-14 Chenga City Tyres football title in Masaka on Saturday.
The striker, who came dressed up and headed to the goal posts twice saved his team in the shoot outs.
First, against SCOUL in the semi finals but again, in scintillating fashion in the finals against Kids of Arua after saving 4 direct penalty kicks.
Kimera’s heroics earned him the Most Valuable Player of the tournament award, that came with a trophy, bicycle and a year long educational sponsorship package from the sponsors, City Tyres.
“Friends of Football will continue to look for the untapped talents across the nation with the aim of developing grass root football”, Eddie Butindo, one of the 10 founding members of Friends of Football told Kawowo Sports in Masaka.
Bunyoro Kitara was the second runners up team after beating Lugazi SCOUL in the third place match.
Prizes to Excelling players:
There were special prizes to all the excelling players at the tourney. Top Scorer, Steven Walumu (Kampala Central) with 6 goals was awarded with a new pair of Shin Guards, Boots, Trophy and a bicycle.
The best goal keeper, Joram Nsubuga (Kampala Central) took home a trophy and brand new pair of gloves.
The annual tournament started with the nation wide qualifiers and climaxed at Masaka with the grand finals.
The best team of the tournament selected will travel to Rwanda for a series of build up games.
10 teams took part in the national finals of the event organized by Friends of Football under the exclusive sponsorship of City Tyres.
