AFCON Group E Fixtures (Saturday 6th-9-2014)
Ghana Vs Uganda
Guinea Vs Togo
Ghana head coach Kwesi Appiah is expecting his charges to rediscover their shine when they meet Uganda at Baba Yara Stadium on Saturday in Kumasi city.
Kwesi who guided Ghana to the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil, understands that his team has to start well and with a win even though the Group E opening fixture against the Cranes will be a tough one.
“We have to start well. We want to win and that is our focus. However, we are expecting a tough game,” Kwesi told Ghana soccernet.com.
He admits that much pressure is at them but his side has to strive to make it out of the group.
“They (Uganda) come in with no pressure compared to us. Football always defies the rule book so nothing can be left to chance.” Kwesi said before adding that; “Our opponents will come in seeking to win just like we will be doing. It’s a very important start for either side but one that we must strive to get out of the way.”
“Their last encounter here in 2005 ended in a draw so they will be aware of what they can do even though it’s been a while since they played at the Nations Cup.” “Expectations will be high but we must deal with it and deliver a good performance.” Kwesi continued to say.
The Uganda Cranes who left on Sunday evening landed yesterday in Niamey ahead of today’s friendly match with Niger.
They will stay in Niger and fly to Accra on Thursday and then proceed to Kumasi city.
