Uganda Cranes striker Emmanuel Okwi has hit at Yanga SC by claiming he will only play for a club of his choice and that club is not Yanga but Simba SC.
Okwi who shockingly signed for Simba SC last week just eight months after joining rivals Yanga SC from SC Villa is embroiled in a tug of war between the two bitter rivals with Yanga claiming the player still has a running a contract with them thus Simba must pay a compensation worth $ 500,000 and the player banned from all football activities in Tanzania.
However, Cranes number 7 who joined the rest of the Simba SC players over the weekend said he is not worried by the situation but ready to fight for his rights by playing for a club of his choice.
“I’m not worried by anything and I’m ready to stand before TFF (Tanzania Football Federation) and FIFA any time to fight for my rights to the end. There is no way I will accept what Yanga did to me,” Okwi told Tanzania Daily News.
The striker who was welcomed by hundreds of Msimbazi fans at the team’s training camp also promised Simba fans good performances.
“Simba fans should expect good performance from me because I know the team’s philosophy very well and I know most of the players here,” Okwi said.
After his unveiling at Simba SC last week, Okwi said Yanga had ditched him by cancelling his two and half year contract a statement Yanga officials labeled as a big lie.
It remains to be seen where this debacle will end but as usual, we shall keep you posted.
