Afraid of the rampant Ebola epidermic in many African countries, several countries have set up strict health precautions to minimize chances of contracting the deadly disease.
Uganda is one of them. The entire contingent of the KLM carrier at Entebbe International Airport that included the Guinea national football team members were subjected to a thorough health check up before being allowed entry into the country.
The screening process of every member on board took close to 2 hours and this left almost the entire Guinea contingent frustrated.
“We are so tired, we missed training and we had to rest thoroughly but we have been made to wait for hours for health inspections”, Patrick Isiart, an official, part of the delegation told Kawowo Sports.
Restricted Numbers:
Government on Saturday passed a directive limiting the number of passengers from Guinea.
“We shall only accept a few people from Guinea to travel as a combative way of avoiding the spread of the ebola virus”, a statement from health minister, Ruhankana Rugunda said.
A team of 19 players and 6 officials touched Entebbe minutes to midnight from Paris, France before they were cleared to travel to their hotel in Kampala.
Uganda hosts Guinea this Wednesday at Namboole Stadium in a group E AFCON 2015 qualifier.
Whereas Guinea beat Togo 2 – 1 in Morocco on Friday, Uganda held Ghana to a 1 all draw in Kumasi.
Guinea could not host the fixture within their own country due to the outbreak of Ebola in Guinea and several neighboring West African countries. The Guinea team is being accommodated at J-Flight Hotel in Kampala.
