The seeded players have turned on the heat at the Rak Tie Break tennis tournament that reaches quarter-finals tomorrow at Lugogo tennis club with cash and prizes worth $4,500.
Top seed Duncan Mugabe was a straight set winner over Kenya’s Kevin Cheriyot 7-4, 7-5 as he booked a tie with seed nine Edward Odokcen in the quarter-finals.
Seed two David Oringa registered a hard fought victory this morning over hard-fighting James Bayego 5-7, 10-8, 7-3 in a game that was postponed after Oringa complaining that he could not see due to the dark lights and court.
Oringa will now meet Robert Buyinza in the other games also to be played.
The winner of both the men’s and ladies tournament will walk away with a trophy, and $1,000(sh2.5m) for there sweat on the court. Seed three Rwanda’s Jean Claude Gasigwa, was ruthless dispatching Richard Semanda 7-1, 7-4 as he set up an encounter with John Birungi.
The other games will have 2014 Kenya Open champion Ismael Changawa taking on Henry Muyanja.
