The 6th World Cup Wood ball Championship 2014 came to a close last evening as team Uganda finished in 5th position out of 21 countries at the six day event held at the magnificant Luneng Bay Sanya sports center, China.

Team Uganda had 6 pairs competing in the Doubles finals and one lady (Navubya Flavia-Entebbe wood ball club) competing in the Stroke Singles finals.

The Team got two podium finishes with Ndejje University’s Atamba Onesmus and Ndejje club’s Namuddu Sophia coming 6th in the Mixed Doubles event whereas the ladies Team got 5th Position which was accompanied with RMB2,600 in prize money. T

he ladies Team comprised of Zawedde Lillian, Nantege Shamsa Kyolaba, Nakato Cissy, Operu Viola, Apio Agnes and Nabukalu Daniela.

The other performers were Flavia Navubya and Joan Mukoova who show great composer in the stroke competition. Bank of Uganda trio of Godwin Ssennyondo, Willian Osire and Agnes Apio promised to rule the cooperate wood ball league after acquiring international exposure.

Next on the International wood ball calender is the World University wood ball world cup that will be held in Malaysia next month.

The first batch of 10 players leaves Sanya today and are expected to arrive in Entebbe on Saturday at 3:30pm aboard an Emirates flight while the last batch of 17 players and officials will be in Kampala on Sunday at 9:15am aboard Kenya airways.

The team received sponsorship from the President and Government of Uganda, Bank of Uganda, Ndejje University, parents and relatives of the Team members and the Chinese Embassy.
