Going into their last NSSF Volleyball League game of the regular season, KAVC coach Shilla Omuriwe had hinted how she cares less about winning.
As long as her team gave their best against Sport-S on Friday night. It looked like Sport-S were going to have an easy meal in KAVC rallying to a 25-19, 25-21 two sets lead. KAVC looked awful in those two sets, failing to attack, block but also defend as Sport-S’ Dickens Otim, Andrew Wandera and Ivan Ongom all proved hard to stop.
KAVC pulled a set back 25-21, then Omuriwe changed tactics. She substituted inexperienced setter Martin Kalema for Veteran Amon Ainebyona and Alex Nduhukire for unfocused Joel Endra.
At this point KAVC’s Daudi Okello had found his zone and Sport-S’ block failed to stop him. KAVC won the set 25-21 again to force a tie breaker. Sport-S at this point decided if they are to go down they will do fighting. The Nsambya side matched KAVC point for point but eventually lost 16-14.
The win takes KAVC to 47 points on the ten team log, Sport-S are second on 46. Reigning Champions Nemostars are third on 44 with Nkumba fourth on 36 points.
