Uganda’s top tennis player Duncan Mugabe, has landed a $1,300 per month International Olympic Committee solidarity scholarship that will gear him up for the 2015 All Africa Games in Brazzaville, Congo and Rio 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil.

“Mugabe has landed a Olympic solidarity scholarship that will help him gear up for next year’s Pan African Games and the Olympics a year after,” William Blick the Uganda Olympic Committee President said. “What does this mean to him well he will be getting $1,300(sh3.3m)every month that he will be using to play in Future tournaments and other international tennis events elsewere.”

The scholarship will get into effect starting next month according to Blick.

Mugabe, won a bronze medal at the 10th All Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique and will be seeking for better at the 11th edition in Brazzaville, Congo. “We choose Mugabe for this scholarship because he is a Bronze medalist and we believe he can win a gold medal at the games next year,” Blick said confidently. “The scholarship will go in a long run in improving him and his game ahead of the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics in Brazil.”

Mugabe lost to 18 year Kenyan Ismail Changawa, in the Rak Tie Break tennis championships at the Lugogo tennis Center on Saturday.

The Uganda Olympic Committee stated that there still several scholarships still on offer for various tennis players and other sports.
