The Uganda under19 ladies’ rugby sevens team, Victoria Vixens, left for Nairobi Kenya on Tuesday aboard Easy Coach Bus ahead of the 19th edition of the Safaricom Sevens scheduled to kick off at Safaricom Stadium on Friday.
The outfit will be participating for the first time following introduction of the new girls category by the organisers, Kenya Rugby Union (KRU).
Off the provisional squad that was summoned a couple of weeks ago, twelve youngsters were selected to travel for the final showpiece on Monday led by hardworking Hafsa Munaba as team captain.
Speaking to Tag Rugby Trust, Munaba appreciated Coach Allan Musoke’s efforts that have kept them in perfect shape ahead of the competition alongside choosing her as the side’s leader.
“I can’t really say I am better than my colleagues on the team for being selected captain, but I would die a little for victory.
“Could be my energetic command on pitch that has seen me captain a team for the first time in life. I have never captained a team before, thanks coach Allan Musoke and UWRA.”
The squad all comprising tag rugby graduates was flagged off at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds and are expected to reach Nairobi today.
Victoria Vixens are to face stiff competition from seven other teams; Rift Valley, Western, Nyanza,Central, Precious Blood, Maono and Arise.
