The name “Andrew ‘Fimbo’ Mukasa” is synonymous with SC Villa and mental illness which should come as no surprise as he scored lots of goals for them, won them a number of titles and is a regular visitor at Butabika Hospital. Fimbo plundered over 100 goals for the Jogoos during his four year spell at Villa Park winning two doubles but there’s more to Andrew Mukasa than just brilliant goals. Here are ten facts about him you didn’t know.

1# Mukasa is a childhood KCC FC fan

Fimbo might have played for KCC FC’s rivals SC Villa and KCC FC among other clubs but as a child, Mukasa supported the Lugogo based side. However, in 2000 while still a Villa player, Mukasa trained with KCC FC something that stirred the already existing rivalry amongst the sides with Villa officials alleging that KCC influenced such happenings.

2# Mukasa officially played for six clubs

For starters, Mukasa is more remembered at SC Villa and Express FC but he played for three other clubs too; Baggery FC (1994-1995), Puma FC (1996-1997), SC Villa (1998-2001), Express FC (2002-2004), KB Lions (2007) and URA FC (2011).

3# He holds the goal scoring record in a single season in the First Division

His goal scoring heroics didn’t start in the super division like most think. Mukasa was top scorer in 1995 with a record 33 goals in a single season for Puma FC.

4# 45 Goals in a single Super League Season

He doesn’t hold the record for most goals in a single season in the first division but super league too. In 1999, Mukasa broke Jimmy Kirunda’s 32 goals record in a single season by netting 45 goals.

5# Nicknamed ‘Fimbo’ while still at Puma FC

It was at Puma and not SC Villa that he got nicknamed ‘Fimbo’.

Because of his scorching shots while at Puma, his fans tagged him ‘Fimbo’, Swahili for a caning rod. This nickname more or less replaced his surname and very few people up to this day are aware that Kalyango is his surname.

#6 Summoned for national duty while still in First Division

In 1996 Fimbo was invited to Uganda’s U-18 squad that took part in the Coca-Cola East and Central African Junior Championships in Ethiopia under Coach Paul Ssali. This was very unusual in Ugandan football because summoning a player from a lower division for national duty is quite rare. He didn’t only spear head Uganda’s efforts into the finals but managed to score three goals in the tournament. 

7# Always turned promises into realities

Before most of the games, Mukasa would make a promise to score a certain number of goals which he did. Some of his memorable promises include; “The U-23 national team, the Kobs traveled to Lusaka, Zambia in 1999 for the 2nd leg of the All African Games qualifiers with a slim 1-0 cushion. Before the team’s departure, he promised the nation that he would, by all means, get Uganda a goal in Zambia and leave the rest to the team’s defence department. He scored the promised goal to end the game 1-1 and helped the Kobs to progress.”

8# Won two consecutive golden boots in super division

Mukasa finished top scorer in the 1999 season with 45 goals before repeating the heroics in 2000 with 27 goals.

9# Mukasa caused inflation in Kampala in 2001

In 2001 he went for professional trials in Istanbul, Turkey and returned home loaded financially. He is alleged to have caused near inflation in the city when he started disbursing money to street kids, one by one soon after his arrival.

10# Mukasa’s favourite artists are the Late Lucky Dube (R.I.P) and Michael Jackson (R.I.P)
