After two seasons out of competitive football, Maroons football club kick off the struggle to re-join the elite league with a goal – less draw against seasoned Big league side, Wandegeya football club.

It was a game of completely two different halves – Maroons with a complete dominance of the first stanza as Wandegeya enjoyed the biggest portion of possession and goal scoring chances in the second half.

The best chance on the evening fell to Maroon’s Brian Akena, missing a penalty after 22 minutes after Richard Ariko had been brought down in the forbidden area.

‘We are rebuilding a new chapter in this club. Many of the players have since graduated to other clubs, but we are happy to be playing competitive football once again’ Asaph Mwebaze, coach at Maroons told Kawowo Sports after the game.

Proline Soccer Academy started life in the big league with a 1 all draw away to Busia united in the other Elgon group played.

Kirinya Jinja s.s heads the standings having registered a 0 – 2 away win over Big league debutant side, Kasese New Villa.

At the Masaka recreational stadium, another newly promoted team to the FUFA big league, Synergy played to a 1 all draw with Masindi’s VCC.

The Kireka United Vs Masaka L.C fixture was not played because the latter failed to secure licences on time and thus could not travel to Kampala for the game.

This match was supposed to be played at the Kiira Town council grounds.
