3rd Edition Pepsi Independence Day

18 Uganda professional golfers have braved the early morning Tuesday rains to take to the picturesque 9 hole Palm Valley Golf Course, situated in the Kakungulu Estate, along Entebbe road.

The pros are taking part in the opening day action of the 3rd edition of the Pepsi Independence day golf. Defending champion, Denis Anguyo opened the way for the professionals in the first group alongside Sadi Atibu and Brian Toolit.

“The course is in great form, but anything is possible when it rains. I expect holding greens” Anguyo told Kawowo Sports shortly before the official tee off.

On-form Jinja pro, Saidi Mawa, fresh from the JBG triumph is pooled in the third group with Herman Mutawe and Entebbe’s Silver Opio.

Entebbe club professional, Dickson Lagoro is playing with another home bred talent, Vicent Byamukama and Jinja club’s Opio Onitio.

Another group to watch out for is one of Uganda Professional Association captain, Deo Akope, Ian Odokonyero and Grace Ocici while Entebbe green keeper, George Olayo is playing alongside Fred Wanzala and Brian Mwesigwa.

The top 9 professionals will make the cut for the share of the sponsor’s U.shs 10.8 M kitty. The main event of the tourney will take place on the Thursday, 9th October 2014.
