Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Golfing Captain, Flavia Namakula had a perfect way to look forward to this week’s Uganda Ladies’ Golf Open after winning the inaugural Palm Valley ladies open over the weekend.

Namakula returned 165 gross to emerge overall winner, beating 51 ladies who participated in the two day’s tournament.

“This victory comes at a time I really needed confidence ahead of the 2014 Uganda ladies’ open”, an excited Namakula told the gallery at the 19th hole of the 9 hole golf course.

She beat Eva Magala with a difference of 12 strokes, while home born lady, Meron Kyomugisha returned 179 gross to take 3rd place.

Police Boss, Gen Kale Kayihura, who was the chief guest capitalized on the occasion to thank all the winners and participants and warned residents of the rampant terror attack in the country.

“I congratulate the winners but I urge residents of Kankugulu estate to pay a watchful eye and report any suspicious people in the area to the police”, he sounded as quoted by a web portal, www.entebbenews.com.

Other winners:
Silver Category Nett: Palm Valley Lady Captain Gloria Mbaguta was winner after she returned 161 nett while Evelyne Asiimwe took the runners up slot with 162 Nett.

Bronze Category Nett: Uganda ladies Golf Union Vice President Samalie Naikomba scooped the bronze prize after she returned 158 nett while Stella Kesime was gross winner with 214 gross.

Best 18s: Harriet Kitaka took day’s bragging rights (with 89 gross) before Entebbe golfer, Irene Nakalembe finished top on the last day of action with 92 gross.

Subsidiary Category (Men): The men were not left out of the box. Francis Ngabo came top in group A with 28 points, beating national team captain, Phillip Kasozi on countback. Allan Muhereza returned a total of 33 points to top group B while Mujuni Peter returned 40 points to top group C. Moses Byaryamujura (41 points) finished number one in group D.

Professional Category: Entebbe club’s Silver Opio  returned 71 gross to beat six other professionals and smile with a lion’s share of the sponsors’ 3M purse.

Celebrated standup comedian Pablo lightened up the award winning ceremony with his hilarious jokes and short stories.

The event was sponsored by Uganda Breweries Limited, Pinnacle Security and St. Augustine University for their support.
