Defending champion Angel Eaton from Tanzania will have to stave off a strong challenge of lady golfers from East Africa and beyond when the 64th Uganda Ladies Open golf championship tees on Thursday at the par 72 Uganda Golf Club.

Eaton, will have to over come her friend and rival on the course two time winner Flavia Namakula, who has won the tournament in 2010 and 2011 other notable players to watch for include Tanzania’s Iddy Madina Hussein. Kenya is expected to send a team of ladies that has Sarah Hoare from Royal Nairobi Golf Club, Sarah Otolo, Jane Karuku, Ann Mululu.

Uganda’s other top lady golfer is Brenda Ngabo just to mention. Other lady golfers expected come from Rwanda, Burundi and Ethiopia.

The most prestigious lady golf tournament on the Uganda Ladies Golf Union calendar was officially launched this morning at the Uganda Golf Club by the ULGU president Esther Okullo the Lady captain of the Uganda Golf Club Dr Kathy Kabenge and the club’s captain Henry Rugamba.

Fourty lady golfers between handicap zero to 18 will play in the Open that tees off on October 16-18 with 70 ladies expected in the subsidiary with handicaps 19-36.

Eaton will be seeking a hat-trick at the Open championship. The three day tournament is sponsored by Kenya Ports Authority, Sheraton Hotel, Nile Breweries Limited, Pinnacle Security, Crown Beverages, Avane, Motorcare, MTN and the Uganda Golf Club.
