The early morning rains on Sunday were obviously expected to return mixed reactions for riders and fans alike.

Whereas they were a blessing to some riders, others were left cursing of the slippery track as the 6th national moto-cross championships got underway.

The great performance from many riders at event on Sunday could partially be attributed to the fast track precipitated by the rains.

Maxime Van Pee (MX1) and the 2013 Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) Moto Cross sports personality of the year, Fortune Sentamu (65 CC) master minded the dominance in the respective classes with clean sweeps- winning all the rounds.

“The track was okay, after the practice rounds in the rains, then we got acclimatized to it” remarked Sentamu, who won all his races against the 10 year old Zimbabwean guest rider, Kunda Mhene.

At the 5th edition, German champion, Jurgen Kuppers was the guest rider.

Fans were particularly thrilled with the daylong action on the slipper terrain of the lake side track.

“I look forward winning Uganda the main team trophy as well as my own gold in the MX 1 category”, Maxim Van Pee said at Garuga on Sunday.

As the fans retired for leisure, many felt the 6th championships were a worthwhile expedition as they left excited for the shake down challenge (where riders of different categories competed at one go), the flamboyance of flying bikers and even the sheer show off for non podium riders in the mould of rider Michael Sekubomba.

Focus will now turn to the forth coming East African challenge at Nsiimbe estates.
