The Uganda Premier League has decided to award SC Villa three points and three goals after their match against Express FC was abandoned in the 85th minuted due to fan chaos.
SC Villa was leading 2-1 against Express FC in Mityana on October 17, before center referee Ronnie Kalema called off the match because of crowd violence which also forced police to fire teargas. A statement from the Uganda Premier League confirmed Express FC’s fate.
The Uganda Premier League Management has considered match officials’ reports and decided that Express FC looses the match by forfeiture (3-0). Therefore, SC Villa has been awarded 3 points and 3 goals. This decision has been taken in accordance with Article 32(1) of FUFA Competitions Rules 2014/2015.
The reports indicate that the fans of the visiting team consistently threw stones on the field of play (Express FC fans started throwing stones in the 31st minute after SC Villa had scored, after they scored the second goal the stone throwing intensified) which culminated into a lot of tear gas being fired hence forcing the referee to abandon the match in the 77th minute of play.
This sporting decision has been taken in the interest of protecting the image of the league.
It was also revealed that Individuals mentioned in the match reports in regard to the disciplinary matters have been forwarded to the FUFA Disciplinary Committee and their verdict is yet to be released.
