Uganda Cricket Cranes all rounder, Roger Mukasa has been voted by the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) as the best sports personality for the month of October 2014.

Mukasa, who was part of the Uganda team that qualified for the World International Cricket Council (ICC) Division 2 league, slated for next year in Namibia.

The all round cricketer, who registered 13 wickets to his name, coming off just 6 innings in the ICC Division 3 tourney held in Singapore tallied 555 votes, beating badminton ace, Edwin Ekiring (505), the Omar Mayanja and Leone Ssenyange rally crew (455) and URA footballer, Robert Ssentongo (285).
Co Driver, Leone Sseyange (extreme left) and driver Omar Mayanja (extreme right) came third  to Roger Mukasa and Edwin Ekiring.

Mukasa was singled out after he scooped the man of the series accolade, having registered 3 half centuries in fixtures against Singapore, Malaysia, USA and the eventual winners, Nepal.
 
Ekiring made the list having won the Nigeria International Badminton tourney, improving his continental and world rankings to 9th and 306th respectively.
For Winning the Nigeria International Open, Edwin Ekiring came second for USPA.

The Omar Mayanja and Leone Ssenyange rally crew won the independence motor rally event while footballer Robert Ssentongo made it on grounds on his superb goal scoring exploits at URA F.C, that saw him net the first Uganda Premier League hat trick of the season, 2014/15 (against Entebbe F.C).
 
How USPA Members Voted:
 
Prior to the voting exercise, Roger Mukasa was nominated by Nation Media Group’s Patrick Kanyomozi and seconded by USPA outgoing Vice President, Sabiti Muwanga, of Vision Group.
 
Nation Media’s Clive Kyazze nominated Edwin Ekiring and WBS’ Sam Mpozi seconded his motion.
 
For Omar Mayanja/Leone Ssenyange rally crew, Frank Kaheesi and Ssenyange himself did the nomination and seconding tasks respectively.
 
Africana nominated Robert Ssentongo for the gong and received the full backing of Kawowo Sport’s Ismael Kiyonga.
 
In the voting proper, each journalist is accorded 20, 15, 10 and 5 points for the 1st , 2nd , 3rd and 4th choices of the his or her preference.

Commendations:
 
Other outstanding personalities commended included; the entire cricket team for qualifying to ICC division 2, lady golfer, Flavia Namakula (won 2014 Uganda Ladies Golf Open).
 
Lady golfer, Flavia Namakula was commended for winning the 2014 Uganda Ladies’ Golf open.
Badminton star, Shamimu Bangi (won in Nigeria) while the pool She Cranes team (finished second at Africa Pool championships in Tanzania) and Ndejje wood ball player, Joel Adupa for winning bronze at the world University woodball championships in Malaysia.

Roger Mukasa will pick his award at a dinner on Thursday, 13th November 2014 at Imperial Royale Hotel.
Last Mark Namanya USPA monthly Assembly:
 
The USPA assembly at Rose Hall, Imperial Royale Hotel has been the last congress for Mark Namanya as president of the sports reporters’ body.
 
In his brief remarks, Namanya passed a token of appreciation to the entire USPA members for being supportive and diligent in his tenure of office.
I thank you for the working with me in a positive way. As we head to his period of elections, let us avoid divisive politicking and work to uphold the true values of USPA”
This comes at a time when voting for a new executive will take place at the next elective assembly to be held on 22nd November 2014 at Christ the King Hotel Hall in Kampala.
