Full-Time Result: Sadolin Mongers 28 – 15 Kobs
Saturday wasn’t any other evening at the House of pain stadium in Entebbe when the Sadolin Mongers hosted the reigning national rugby league defending champions, Kobs.
The home side, famous for their never say die attitude and the rigid style of rugby lived to the billing as they shocked Kobs 28 – 15 at a ground tagged ‘The House of pain’.
The Mongers mounted an early surge to the visitor’s territory and by the 7th minute, a well Adrian Wasswa’s perfectly converted penalty from 25 yards put them ahead.

Wasswa’s flawless left boot was once again called for 18 minutes later and this time from a longer range – 40 yards.
The 2013/14 golden boot winner made no mistake with yet another well converted penalty 2 minutes later to give the home side a 9 – 0 lead by the half hour mark.
Left footer, Adrian Wasswa was unstoppable with his famous kicks as his twin brother, Herbert Kato did the damage as a prop.
Kobs Mount Come Back:
Mongers’ skipper John Wandicho suffered a sin bin for unsporting character and Kobs put the numerical advantage to optimum use.
With 4 minutes to the half time mark, a well co-ordinated move from the visitors pinned Mongers to the wall.
Crowded action on the left prompted for Joseph Aredo’s brilliant cross ball that found an unchallenged Michael Wamolo for Kobs’ try.
Aredo missed the subsequent conversion as the half time whistle of referee Ramsey Olinga called for a recess with the scores reading 12 – 8 in favour of the hosts.
11 minutes into the second stanza of the action packed fixture, burley Andrew Olwenyi made a try to stretch the shoreline 17 – 8.
Kobs quickly reacted with a well drilled Joseph Aredo penalty that was followed by a timely Brian Odong try (Aredo missed subsequent conversion) and Kobs closed on 17 – 15.
Barely 10 minutes to the clock, the home side introduced ‘prodigal son’ Simon Wakabi (a former Kobs’ player), much to the delight of the ecstatic crowd.
Man of the match, Wasswa added another penalty that was supplemented by a rare Lenon Kalule try (with a successful conversion) and the final scoreline read in bold, Mongers 28 – 15 Kobs.
Reactions:
Mongers’ American coach, Robert Powel summarized his team’s superb showing with a single description; ‘Believe’.
Reigning MVP, Oscar Kalyango questioned some of the match officials’ decisions but was quick to heap praise on the home team’s determination and fair result.
“The refs at times can make it hard for teams but I congratulate the Mongers”, Kalyango told Kawowo Sports.
