UCU Canons 50-72 City Oilers (Series tied 2-all)

After going 2-0, the City Oilers are now even with the UCU Canons in the best of five series. Thanks to explosive performances from the star guards, better shot selection and the all round team defense.

After a 16 points and 7 assist performance in Game 3, Jimmy Enabu once again delivered a championship caliber performance in Game 4 to lift the Oilers who stated slow. The shooting guard ran out for game high 23 points, made 6 assists and swiped 6 steals as Oilers blew-out Canons 72-50 to draw level with the university side who seemed to be running away with the series after the opening couple of games.

“We have played a lot better than we did in the first two games and probably that is the reason we have managed to win those two games.” City Oilers coach, Mandy Juruni said.

Kami Kabange contributed 15 points and picked 8 rebounds for Oilers, James Okello had 11points and 6 rebounds off the bench and Ben Komakech chipped in with 10 for the defending champions.

Meanwhile the Canons blew the game with declining out put as the game progressed. As the City Oilers were getting into their ryhtym and going into ascendance, the Canons were going the opposite direction – scoring 17, 14, 10 and 9 points in the four quarters respectively.

Canons’ star player, Suudi Ulanga associated the poor display in the two games to the team being tired but said they wont play as poor again in the decider. “I think as a team we have been a bit tired be cause we had a tough series in the quarter finals” the shooting guard who scored 12 points told Kawowo Sports.

Innocent Odur scored team high 14 points off the bench for Canons and big man Desmond Owili had 12 points and 5 rebounds.

“We have the last game tomorrow i don’t think we can play poorly as we did in Game 3 & 4. We have not panic, we are waiting for tomorrow (today)and play a good game. We have been poor as a team in these two games but come tomorrow (today), we will play strong finish the series and be in the finals” Ulanga said on the decisive Game 5 that will be on tonight.

Like in Game 3, the Canons were once again cleaned on the glass with their top rebounders, Ivan Lumanyika and Desmond Owili combining for 11 rebounds – 3 less than City Oilers’ Samuel Kalwanyi.
