Uganda Swimming Federation President Donald Rukare, has been appointed the new FINA Bureau Member for Africa replacing the late Lino Lourenço of Angola, who died earlier this year, the appointment was made at the FINA Bureau meeting in Doha, Qatar where the 12th FINA World Swimming Championships is being held.
Rukare is at the FINA World Swimming Championships attending as leader of delegation for Team Uganda and is to present a paper at 3rd World Aquatics Convention in Doha, Qatar from 29th November to 1 December.
At the same meeting three new national member federations where approved that has is Gabon, St Maarten and Belize bring the total number of National Federations members of FINA to 207 in total.
Rukare, is also the Vice President of CANA and is also a member of FINA Masters Committee. He is also the General Secretary at the Uganda Olympic Committee. He is also the Board Chairman for Special Olympics in Uganda.
His new elevation at the World Swimming Body FINA is expected to impart on the growth of swimming in the East African region as the sport develops as a major sport.
