“We are two games up but the objective is to win four games. We want to put these two games behind us and come back strong in the next game (Game 3).” City Oilers’ coach, Mandy Juruni said after the Game 2 victory over Tiger Head Power on Friday.
The City Oilers came back strong in Game 3 on Sunday at Lugogo with a 10-points win and assumed a 3-0 series lead in the process and on the brink of winning the second title on the second asking and probably on short order this year.
“We are in a good position where any team would want to be but we don’t want to say its over because the objective is to win four games. I’m happy for the wins – they are tough wins, so we cant take anything for granted” a delighted but cautious Juruni told Kawowo Sports.
Reigning post season MVP, Kami Kabange led the way for City Oilers who are in cruise and control of the series with game high 26 points and 8 rebounds. Jimmy Enabu contributed 16 points while Samuel Kalwanyi notched an 11 points and 14 rebounds double-double. Point guard, Ben Komakech dropped 10 dimes to go with 8 points.
Paul Odong paced Power who have to win all the remaining games to get their hands on the winners trophy with 18 points. Joseph Ikong and Philip Ameny had 14 and 13 points respectively while Abdullahi Ramadhani and Paul Mwaka contributed 10 points apiece.
For a second game running, forward, Norman Blick went scoreless in 13 minutes on the floor.
In the women’s finals, defending champions, UCU Lady Canons won the second game on the bounce to take a 2-1 series lead.
Bigs, Purity Odhiambo and Vilma Achieng combined for 37 points and 26 rebounds to pace the defending champions.
Claire Lamunu had game high 19 points and 10 rebounds for KCCA and only player to reach double figures. Muhamini Namuya contributed 9 points and picked 8 rebounds and Flavia Oketcho had 8 points.
