The fatigue and weary faces on every Uganda Sand Cranes squads – man easily out shone the euphoric atmosphere as the delegation arrived in Kampala from that 3300 KM return journey from Zanzibar on Wednesday.

A 22 man contingent that traveled to Zanzibar for the first ever international beach soccer match has at long last safely returned back home.

Uganda Sand Cranes won the battle, overcoming Zanzibar in a closely contested tie 5-4 at the Bububu Sand Stadium.

East or West, home is the best, we had a lot of learning experiences from the trip and I do thank the Uganda Beach Soccer Association, FUFA, the support staff and the Zanzibar Football Association

During a special welcome breakfast for the team, Mutabaazi hinted on the developmental meetings held with the Zanzibar counter parts and promised the start of the East Africa Copa beach soccer clubs and nations’ championships.

Uganda Sand Cranes will play in the up coming AFCON 2015 Championships that will be held in Seychelles come April.

Mutabaazi will live to forget the trip as it acted to open the doors of beach soccer in Uganda.

Sand Cranes’ Skipper Derrick Tekkwo hailed his teammates’ determination to pull off a positive result.

None of us was used to that fine sand but we played like warriors in the name of lovely mother nation,

Meanwhile, action now focuses on the upcoming Corporate beach soccer championships, where Vision Group is  the defending champion.
