Rallye Des Mille Collines in Rwanda was cancelled Saturday morning after a fatal accident claimed the life of the navigator, Christophe Desquene. The accident that happened in the final day of the two-day rally event left driver, Claude Kwizera seriously injured.

The unfortunate crew had ended day one in an overall second position. They pushed and fought hard in day two eying first place as the competition got stiffer.

In the second stage of day two, the crew went off road and hit a tree that crunched in on the right hand side of their car, that led to the death of Desquene. Ugandan navigator, Rogers Sirwomu was in total shock as he spoke to Kawowo Sports.

Am just in shock, I had a chat with him at the start of the stage, and minutes later I had to help him out of the car as he fought for breath, all i can say may his soul rest peace.

The Rally organisers were extremely saddened by the loss of a valued member of the motorsport community. Our thoughts and sympathy go out to family and friends of both members in this difficult time.
