Bidvest Wits midfielder Jabulani Shongwe has revealed that he’s ready to work hard to impress South Africa National Football team for selection ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations showdown which starts on 17 January in Equatorial Guinea.

The Bafana Bafana 34-man preliminary squad is expected to commence preparation under coach Shakes Mashaba, for the tournament in Johannesburg on Saturday.

Shongwe joined three other teammates from Bidvest Wits (Siyabonga Nhlapho, Thulani Hlatshwayo and Sibusiso Vilakazi) and told Goal that their main aim is to win the top accolades, which they can actually do.

“I’m going there to work hard and try to give myself a chance to make the cut when the squad is trimmed down. I know it’s not going to be easy, because there are a lot of good players in the team.

“But I know that any player that is chosen to represent the country at the tournament will do well at the tournament. Obviously the main aim is to go there and win the tournament and I’m sure we can do that.”
