Uganda’s Sharif “Lion” Bogere has set is eyes on fighting for the vacant WBC lightweight title belt in the early season of the year as his promoters Golden Boy promotions push for him to claim a world title shot soon.
Bogere, who ended the year 2014 with a loopsided knockout win over Mexican Fernando Garcia in October 2014 is seeking to fight for the WBC lightweight vacant belt or the World Boxing Organisation one that is also vacant.
“We are looking around February or March for a title fight or with a top ten opponent all am waiting for his my next schedule from my promoters Golden Boy,” Bogere told Leftjab boxing in a phone interview. “The WBC belt is vacant after Omar Figueroa, is expected to move up the divisions together with the WBO lightweight champion Terence Crawford, who is also doing the same.”
In a length interview the Las Vegas based fighter talked about his weight division, the future and what he wants to achieve in the New Year with a world title of all sorts as the main priority.
“Nobody scares me in my division and the only talented fighter I see is Terence Crawford, who I have trained with and well he is talented, he got great skills and power,” Bogere said. “The division at the moment looks shaky and am looking at the WBC, WBO or even fighting the IBF lightweight champion Mickey Bey Junior.”
Bogere’s last fight with had the stats as follows final punch stats had Bogere landing 195 of 498 (39%) compared to just 39 of 157 (25%) for Garcia. The Ugandan prize fighter is trained by top trainer Kenny Adams.
